MAN UP BIBLE SERIES Living for Eternity Lesson Five
2
The Real World This lesson is on a subject that is near and dear to every man’s heart. His possessions. His toys. His car. His stuff. We all have our things. We know that they are not bringing us any lasting happiness but we cling on to them with a vise grip. The Scripture outlines for us that the things of this world can be destroyed. In an instant it can all be gone. It can all become useless. If you do not believe me then you have not faced death. Real death. I did a few years ago and it changed the way I view my possessions. When you could be dead in a day all those things take on a tarnished hue in the light of the God of heaven and His priorities. So think about loosening the grip on your stuff. Take up a new perspective. Here is Jesus word’s found in Matthew 6:

The Real Word Matthew 6:19-20 New International Version Treasures in Heaven 19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.

Real Talk Where are you laying up your treasure? Is this world’s monetary system secure? What would you do if you lost everything tomorrow?

Real Steps Jesus is very clear about what we are to do: Lay up your treasures in Heaven. (Eternal choices) Do not lay up your treasures on earth. (Temporal choices) Everything you have on earth is on loan from God. Answer these two questions: 1. What treasure has God given me? 2. What is God asking me to do with my treasure?

Time to Close So God has given us so much and it was given to us to make a real impact for God’s work and purpose on this earth. I know this is not what most of us are thinking about on a daily basis when it comes to our possessions. We really like our things. They bring us some sort of false pride or security. Jesus is calling us to see things from his perspective. This is something that will take some real courage and commitment. I know it will not be easy to let go and give to God’s work but the eternal rewards will far outweigh the bank account balance at the end of the month. If we are willing to give all that we are God will match that with all that He is. We know that is the way to live in concept but putting that into practice is another thing altogether. Time to MAN UP!
