1 5.2 The Colonists Resist Tighter Control

2 Conflict with Native Americans By 1763 Britain controlled almost all of North America east of the Mississippi River. Native Americans were trying to push back the flood of Colonist moving to the West. Pontiac’s War: Under Pontiac, Native Americans attack the British forts and settlements. Over 2000 settlers were killed Colonist settlers in response started killing all Native Americans even those who did not attack the settlers. Eventually British troops destroy Pontiac’s troops but the tension continues

4 British Rule Leads to Conflict Britain is in debt and needs to pay for the French and Indian War Who is going to pay? Colonist asked to pay some part of the war. Sugar Act: A duty (tax) on molassess and to stop smuggling

5 The Quartering Act To save money, British wanted the colonist to provide soldiers with food and other supplies Colonist believe this is a tax! Violating the rights as English Citizens! Violates our English Bill of Rights!!
