Warm Up 11/2 Take out your question sheet from Act II, and review it silently for 3 minutes (in order to remind yourself of the content of the Act).
2
Learning Targets I can examine key elements of Act II with my class by participating in a discussion activity. I can assess my comprehension of acts I and II by taking a quiz
3
Discussion Question 1 As a class, describe Hamlet’s behavior when he visits Ophelia in scene 1. Do you think his actions provide evidence of his insanity or are his actions motivated by something else (If insanity, go to the LEFT of the room. If something else, go t the RIGHT)? With classmates, take three minutes to decide how to defend your response.
4
Discussion Question 2 Do you think Hamlet’s hesitation in approaching his task of revenge is a sign of cowardice, or is his thoughtfulness admirable and understandable (If cowardice, go to the LEFT of the room. If thoughtfulness, go to the RIGHT)? With classmates, take three minutes to decide how to defend your response.
5
Discussion Question 3 With the same group, take three minutes to address this question: The level of suspense escalates in act 2. How does Shakespeare accomplish this?
6
Homework In your journal: 1.Create a drawing that illustrates Hamlet’s visit to Ophelia in Act II. Convey the characters’ feelings in their facial expressions and body posture. 2.Under the picture, identify the characters’ feelings in that moment of the play and explain how you’ve successfully illustrated these feelings.
