DEFINITION o Manga is a Japanese word that translates to whimsical sketches in English. o Manga is a comic that is from Japan

ORIGIN Manga has been dated back to 12th century scrolls resembling the style, but is still disputed that this a manga. Manga has been used for pre war meditation for samurai.

THE AFFECT OF WAR Before the war with America, Japan thought that Manga had a pure and beautiful art form and images, but after the U.S. dropped the atomic bombs there was a serious drop in confidence and manga got slightly more dark.

EARLY INFLUENCE IN AMERICA During the occupation of Japan after wwII manga was more strongly shaped towards the United States culture and even adapted some of the art from American comics.

TYPES OF MANGA o Sh ō jo, Sh ō nen, and are all based for different groups of people. o Sh ō nen is based for people 14-18 and is more sci-fi. o Sh ō jo is based for females between 10-18 and has less violence than Sh ō nen.

MODERN MANGA since the 1950’s manga has made $5.5 billion dollars worldwide and $175 million is from Canada and the United states. Manga has a fan base that stretches worldwide and is a huge industry.
