4 Motivation …what a character desires. Motivation often changes as a result of what happens in the story.

6 Dynamic Character …a character who changes as a result of what happens in the story

9 Symbolism …something used to represent a BIG idea - usually one that is hard to express.

11 Foreshadowing …any hint or clue about something that will happen later in the story

13 Suspense …anytime the audience doesn’t know what’s going to happen next. Stories without suspense are predictable and usually boring.

15 Dramatic Irony …this form of suspense is when the AUDIENCE knows what’s coming but the CHARACTERS do not.

17 Situational Irony …this form of suspense surprises BOTH the audience and the characters in the story.

19 Theme …represents ideas that can be supported by what happens in the story.
