What is a drama? A drama is a story acted out in front of an audience.
A drama can be serious or funny A drama can use actors, puppets, dance, or music.

Drama A drama has many elements
Plot: a series of events that make up the story. Setting: the time and place of the story.

Drama Actors play the characters
Characters can be people who actually lived, animals, or fictional people. Characters speak through lines called dialogue.

Drama People who write dramas or plays are called playwrights.

Drama Playwrights prepare the written text called the script.
The script includes: Stage directions Describes the scene or setting. Explains what the characters are doing or how they are feeling. These are not read aloud and usually written in brackets or italics.

Drama Plays are usually divided into parts called acts.
A play can have one act or several. Each act tells a different part of the story. Acts may be divided into smaller parts called scenes.

Tools of Drama To bring the play to life on stage, actors use:
Props: objects such as a broom or a book. Costumes: clothing that help the actors look like their characters. Sets: stage decoration that shows where the action is taking place.
