The Success of 'Food Revolution' In West Virginia Schools Kevin Whitmer

Beginning at Home Teaching those around him to cook. Change the way legislators perceived food.

The Food Revolution First landed in Huntington, West Virginia. Attempted to work with the same techniques that were able to bring him success in England. The goal was to get the United States eating better to fight the obesity epidemic.

The Results Examining the results of the changes he made to the school lunch program, we find some discouraging outcomes, contradicting those presented in the finally of the first season. These statistics are a comparison of figures 2 months prior and 2 months after the changes made during the show.

Milk As a results of flavored milks being removed from the menu, schools saw a 25% reduction in milk consumption.

Participation Before the food revolution, schools were seeing a 75% participation rate in their lunch programs. After changes had been made, schools were finding only 67% of students were receiving their lunch from the cafeteria.

New Meals more Nutritious. Calcium, Vitamins A and C, and Iron above target levels. Sodium below 1100 mg per meal. Fiber averaged 8.51 gm per meal, well above 6gm target.
