To spread American power, culture, and influence

Early Actions 1867 US gains its first big territory when it purchased ALASKA from Russia 1898 HAWAII was ANNEXED by the United States Seemed a dumb decision at first…. What was the result of the war? The Spanish-American War only lasted four months… It resulted in a loss of land for Spain…. And many lands gained by the United States The US gained lands in the Pacific and the Caribbean: Philippines Guam Puerto Rico

How did the war benefit the US? Cuba had won its independence But, the United States put the island under its protection, which means Cuba became an American PROTECTORATE The Spanish-American War had made the United States a world-class power
