http://www.cellsalive.com/mitosis.htm Mitosis is the process by which plant and animal cells replicate (copy) their DNA (chromosomes) and separate them into two new nuclei (plural of nucleus). The end result is that two new cells are created from the original one. The new cells are identical to the original one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlN7K1-9QB0

The types of cells made through mitosis are call somatic cells and these are the cells that make up all of the different parts of the body. They include cells such as : blood, skin, hair, nerve, muscle, bone, etc. Red Blood CellsSkin Cells Onion Skin Cells Leaf Cells Nerve Cells Muscles Cells Hair Cells Bone Cells

What can a plant or animal to do when its cells divide? 1) The organism can GROW.
4
2) The organism can HEAL.
5
3) The organism can REPRODUCE. These are time lapsed photos of a single celled amoeba dividing itself to create two new individuals.
7
# of Chromosomes in the Cell: ________ after replication. The cell grows and duplicates its genetic material. INTERMISSION
8
# of Chromosomes in the Cell: ________ The chromosomes shorten and thicken. The nuclear membrane starts to fade away. POOFY!
9
# of Chromosomes in the Cell: ________ The chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell. MIDDLE
10
# of Chromosomes in the Cell: ________ The 2 halves of chromosomes get pulled to opposite poles of the cell by spindle fibres formed from the centrioles. APART
11
# of Chromosomes in the Cell: ________ Two new nuclear membranes start to form. Cytokinesis begins. TEAR
12
# of Chromosomes in the Cell: ________
13
In animal cells, the cell membrane pinches together, separating the cell. In plant cells, a cell plate forms, divides the cell in two and then develops into a new cell wall. PINCHING CELL PLATE
