2. Saint Jerome Before Jerome translated the Bible, there were many versions written from the Hebrew and Greek texts. Some considered these translations to be corrupt and incorrect. Jerome researched and revised the books of the Bible over many years. In the 16th century, the Council of Trent decided that Jerome's work was the authoritative Latin text of the Catholic Church. It is still the official translation used today.
