4 Shift to Realism: (brought on by industrialization)
* Show the way life was, not just as it should be * Daguerreotype (Camera) invented (encouraging realism) * Realistic books pointed out unfair labor practices and encouraged reform Civil war daguerreotype

* Move away from exact details and toward an inexact impression of a picture * Returned to more positive ideas and topics
