Two Propellers, One Generator Casey Kopko Alex Groner Josh Dunn Ben Prichett
2
Overview Wind from fan turns the blades causing the magnets to spin inside the copper wire, producing electricity Generator consists of plexiglass, copper wire, and six magnets Frame built out of wood Plastic Blades from model airplane
3
How It Works Wind turns propellers Propellers turn shaft Shaft turns magnets Magnets excite electrons producing electricity Electricity powers the light bulb
4
Design Used sturdy materials for frame Two propellers were used to maximize surface area 600 turns of 26 gauge wire Six magnets centered on shaft inside wiring On/off switch added to test voltage and amps with and without the light bulb
5
Calculations We used the equation to calculate the power going into the generator from the wind(29.9 Watts) By using the equation we were able to find the actual power generated(.274 Watts) Using these two powers, we were able to determine the efficiency of our windmill
6
Construction Issues Getting magnet to stay centered on shaft Finding correct materials to use for generator box Having the blades inhibited due to friction or lack of surface area Stabilizing generator on top of frame
7
Conclusion Total cost was approximately $31 Light bulb did light successfully Learned how generator functions and how to harness wind energy Efficiency was.917% and therefore not very efficient.
