ANATOMY LECTURE #4 Body Cavities and Regions
2
BODY REGIONS Appendicular=upper and lower limbs. Axial=head, neck, and trunk.
3
BODY CAVITIES Cranial Cavity: houses the brain Vertebral Cavity: contains the spinal cord, surrounded by backbone
4
BODY CAVITIES Thoracic cavity: chest area Abdominopelvic cavity: stomach area *Organs in these cavities are called viscera*
5
BODY CAVITIES The thoracic and abdominopelvic cavities are separated by the diaphragm-a muscle used during breathing.
6
BODY CAVITIES Thoracic cavity houses the lungs. In between the lungs is an area called the mediastinum (houses the heart, trachea, and thymus).
