2. M ISSION “To support public safety and positive change of children, families, and communities through guidance, education and empowerment.

3. D EMOGRAPHIC Grace Cottage currently houses 5 female adjudicated youth. But they can house up to 14 female youth. Target: At risk youth who is adjudicated due to various crimes or violations such as truancy, drugs, theft, AWOL etc.

4. P OLICIES There are 3 policies that coincide with the clients’ rights handbook. “Youth will have access to mail and telephone to maintain relationships with families, contact with attorneys, case managers, and other support services” The purpose of this policy is to make sure that there is a process for the youth to maintain consistent contact and communication with their family and their support services. “In order to foster family contact on a regular basis. Visitation will be encouraged and conducted in surroundings that allow for privacy and informal conversation while maintaining facility safety and security” The purpose of this policy is to make sure there is equal and timely access to each resident services and that their legal rights and family rights are protected. “All youth have rights and responsibilities that must be recognized. Complaints of abridgement of these rights shall be subject to grievance procedures. A youth’s refusal to accept the responsibilities that go along with the rights resulting in a rule violation may be subject to the disciplinary process”. The purpose of this policy is to ensure safety and protect the constitutional rights of the youth and be able to counterbalance the resident’s rights while still upholding Grace Cottage’s regulations.

R ELATIONSHIPS TO OTHER A GENCIES Grace Cottage is relatively close to other behavioral and mental health agencies such as: Dover Behavioral Health Devereux Terry Center Advoserv and many other facilities. The relationship between Grace Cottage and other human service agencies is the target which is the adjudicated youth, and the main goal is to help the youth become productive members of society.

10. I NTERN ’ S R OLE As an intern in Grace Cottage my role in the agency is: Observe a client’s intake process, observe treatment specialists as they explain the intake process, Learn about client’s triggers and how to help clients use coping skills Attend community meetings to see how it was done, and get to know the clients, such as their background and why are they in placement. Observe the staff and my supervisor when working with clients that are in crisis and to talk to my supervisor directly about what methods are used when clients are in crisis.
