How to Figure out a Prefix Now that we have seen a few examples of words with prefixes we are going to break down these words, Lets do the first one together. We will use a math equation to form our word prefix + root = new word NEXTPrevious

Retake Prefix + root = new word So for retake we look for the root word (a word that can stand by itself take) and add the prefix (the part in the beginning of the word that can’t stand by its self re) All together we have re + take = retake NEXTPrevious

Playing around with prefixes prefix + root = new word Now its time to look at another root word and see on your own if you can break it down the word is undo First look for the root word – when you think you know what it is click on the word un do NEXTPrevious

Lets keep at it Now that we have the root of the word redo which is do its time to find the prefix. Now lets look carefully at the word. What is left? Click here when you think you have it undo - do= UN Undo – do = ? NEXTPrevious

Now then We now know how to find a prefix in a word, but do all words have prefixes? Think about this then No not all words have prefixes, in order to have a prefix you need a root word that can stand alone click here NEXTPrevious
