Edmund Halley Edmund Halley was born on November 8 th 1656 and died on January 14 th 1742. He was a son of wealthy parents. Edmund Halley went to school at St. Paul’s School. When Edmund was older he then went to Queens college in Oxford. When he left Oxford he did not have a degree yet.

Edmund’s journey. Edmund Halley sailed to St. Helena, it is a rocky island in the South Atlantic ocean. He later returned back in 1676. In 1676 he was elected fellow of the Royal Society, he was one of the youngest elected as fellow of the Royal Society. In 1681 Edmund got married to Mary Tooke his father also got remarried to. In his later years he ended his financial outlay.

Edmund’s later years. Even though Halley did not graduate right away that didn’t keep him from doing what he had wanted to do which was scientific work. In 1686 he published a map of the world. By 1682 he had a comet named after him it was called Halley’s comet. In 1701 Halley investigated the tides and coasts of southern England. Edmund helped tell that stars have to have motions of their own. He also helped in events and controversies of when he was alive.
