10 Graduation Requirements  Students must complete required units as outlined by state and local agencies, but there is no longer a graduation assessment/test  Regardless of endorsement, a student must be a member of the National Honors Society in order to graduate with honors from JHS Advanced  Honors (Advanced simply means college bound curriculum)

11 National Honors Society(NHS)  Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 to become a member(1 st time of eligibility is at the beginning of Spring semester of 10 th grade)  Demonstrate good character/behavior skills  Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.15 to remain a member  Great addition to your resume’ and scholarship applications

12 TESTING 2015-2016  10 th Grade: Aspire (Free State Assessment) and PSAT (Voluntary, $15)  11 th Grade: ACT w/Writing(Free State Assessment) and PSAT (Voluntary, $15)  12 th Grade: ACT WorkKeys  Global Scholars: 9 th Grade

13 What Do You Want to Do After Graduation?  Explore/nurture your interests to determine your career path  Career Tech Academies allow you to get certified/credentialed in certain areas by the time you graduate  Get a head start on college courses with Dual Enrollment and AP classes

14 JHS Career Tech Academies (See your counselor for more details)  Health Science  Information Technology  Finance  Family and Consumer  Business, Management, and Administration  Welding  Why get certified/credentialed? - Employers see you as a better candidate b/c it saves them time/money on training you - Proves you are work ready!!! - Great for those who plan to attend 4 yr programs as well - Looks good on resume’ and scholarship applications

15 Dual Enrollment  Available for 10-12 th graders  Work on college courses while in high school  Currently 3 college hours = 1 credit unit  Offered through - (Early College at Univ. of AL); discounted tuition, no free classes - Dual Enrollment/Accelerated High School at AL Southern * BOGO(buy one, make at least a “C” and get the next class free) Career Tech Dual Enrollment also available(Free for eligible students) VALUABLE OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR STUDENTS!!! (applications available in the guidance office)

16 Advanced Placement(AP) Classes  AP courses offered online via ACCESS which is free for Alabama High School Students  Allows students to take an exam in the Spring of the year during which the course is taken  Scores range from 1- 4. Students receive college credit with a score of at least 3  Currently, Calculus is the only AP course offered here on JHS campus.

17 Get Involved! ! !!  Athletics  Arts: Band, Chorus  Service Organizations  Academic Organizations  Clubs  (Research shows that the more involved students are in school, the less likely their chances are of getting into trouble with the law and/or dropping out of school.  It takes more than good grades to be competitive for scholarships. Get involved in your school and community!

18 Making Dreams A Reality: One Student at a Time  Four years go fast !!!!  Upon graduation, we expect every student to have accomplished: –Social Skills Necessary for Adulthood –Job Readiness –College, Military, or Workforce Entrance –Scholarship Eligibility  Realize it all starts DAY ONE at JHS! A right start makes a strong finish!
