The Holocaust 1930s – 1945 Intolerance- an unwillingness to accept an individual or group because of their race, religion, background, or beliefs.

Takeover of Adolf Hitler –Came to power in 1933 under the political party National Socialists (Nazis) –Began passing anti-Jewish laws/ blamed Germany’s problems on the treaty & the Jews Wear star of David Illegal for them to do jobs like teachers, bankers, politicians, doctors, nurses Couldn’t shop at certain stores –Started the Hitler Youth- to instill Nazi values in boys They were taught to hate all non-pure Germans at an early age They led a strict military life away from parents & joined army at age 18

Hitler’s plan –“Today Europe, tomorrow the world!” He planned to take over the world eventually –wanted to create a master race of pure Germans by killing off Jews, gypsies, blacks, handicapped, & mentally ill people –genocide- deliberate killing of a certain group sent to concentration camps, worked to death and killed 8 million killed in concentration camps

Imagine….. being jammed into a train that is so full you can’t move……. you’re on that train for a day and a half……people die right next to you and it’s too crowded for their bodies to fall, so dead people are pressed up against you…..

Imagine……. walking for 3 days straight and knowing that if you stopped or slowed down you’d be shot

Imagine…… being painfully tattooed with a number, as if you aren’t an individual human with a name, personality, and a unique history, but instead just a number

Imagine…… sleeping next to and going to the bathroom next to 299 strangers……

Imagine……. being so hungry you’d eat a raw, rotten onion or candle wax

Imagine…….. seeing someone you love in a pile of dead bodies……
