Definition Converts the chemical energy from a fuel into electricity through a chemical reaction of positively charges hydrogen ions with oxygen or another oxidizing agent.
3
Objectives Researchers wanted to make a continuous source of energy, thus the fuel cell was made. A continuous source of fuel and oxygen or air to continue the chemical reaction. The fuel cells can produce electricity continuously as long as these inputs are supplied.
4
Discoveries Unexpected properties of graphene can help pave the way for more efficient fuel cells and even enable hydrogen harvesting from the Earth’s atmosphere.
5
Future Plans Toyota has announced that they are trying to make hydrogen-electric as their primary fuel for the next hundred years. Over 5,000 of its patents relating to hydrogen fuel cell until at least 2020.
