2 Learning Outcomes By the end of this lesson you should all: 1.Be aware of the timeline for higher PE 2.Have recapped the cycle of analysis 3.Know the variety of different types of fitness we will look at through football 4.Be able to explain what aspects of fitness are important in football and why

3 Course Outline The course outline until May is as follows: Wks 19-27 Structures & Strategies - Basketball Wks 1-8 Preparation of the Body – Hockey Wks 9-18 Skills & Techniques – Badminton (NAB) Weeks 27 - 31 Performance Weeks 32 - 35 Revision

4 Weekly outline Monday – Practical Tuesday - Homework collected Wednesday – Homework issued Thursday – Practical You must bring your PE folder to every lesson.

5 Exam Expectations Your final PE grade at higher is made up of: 40% from your practical performance (best 2 activities) 60% from exam You MUST complete the NAB before you can sit exam

6 Cycle of Analysis Task 1 – Enter these 4 statements into your blank cycle EVALUATE - Reflect on the benefits of your programme of work and discuss future development needs ANALYSE - Explain how key concept knowledge helped you analyse performance INVESTIGATE - Explain how performance was investigated through collecting information DEVELOP - Explain the content and suitability of the programme you were monitoring

9 Preparation of the Body Investigating Performance When investigating performance we must consider the following: 1.Physical Aspects of Fitness 2.Skill Related Aspects of Fitness 3.Mental Aspects of Fitness 4.Personal Qualities Brainstorm! Write down as many of these as you can think of under the 4 headings

10 Task 1 Watch the following video clip and for the type of fitness you have been given note down examples of it being important in the game (www.bbc.co.uk).www.bbc.co.uk

11 Physical Aspects of Fitness We will study all types of fitness in detail but most specifically we will look at physical aspects of fitness.

12 Positional Differences It is vital that we consider positional differences when determining which aspects of fitness are important in football. A goalkeeper will have very different fitness demands to a midfield player and a forward player will have different fitness demand than a midfielder.

13 Physical Aspects of Fitness We will study all types of fitness in detail but most specifically we will look at physical aspects of fitness. Which 2 physical aspects of fitness do you think are most important in hockey and why?

14 Physical Demands of the Game High Speed Running: 1.17 mins Moderate speed running: 2.56 mins Individual ball possession: 1.30-2.30 mins Sprinting: 25-30 seconds Standing still: 9.31 mins Jogging: 19.30 mins Walking: 22.40 mins minutes 

15 Task 2 Read pages 4 – 8 of your course notes and write down in your own words why you feel cardio-respiratory endurance and speed are vital to a midfield player in football.

16 INVESTIGATE Once we have identified the aspects of fitness we feel are important to the game we must then assess our levels of fitness within them. We will look at this in detail on Monday. Over the weekend start to think about how we could assess both speed and cardio-respiratory endurance.
