2. Ilya Repin was a great Russian painter and sculptor. Was born on august 5, 1844 in Chuguev near Kharkiv. His father was a military officer.

3. In 1866 he went to Saint Petersburg and was admitted to the Academy of Arts as a student.

4. He painted a large number of peasants, fishwomen and scenes from merchant life.

5. He painted many of his celebrated compatriots, including L. Tolstoy and M. Mussorgsky.

6.
