The narrator “holds the camera.” The narrator tells the story. A writer’s choice of narrator is called point of view.

The narrator is a character in the story. The narrator uses the pronouns “I” and “me.” The narrator describes his/her thoughts and feelings. The narrator does not know the thoughts and feelings of other characters.

The narrator is NOT a character in the story. There are two types. ◦ Limited omniscient – the narrator knows the thoughts and feelings of only ONE character. ◦ Omniscient – the narrator knows the thoughts and feelings of ALL the characters.
