3  Antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) may not be stopped, even if seizures stop  Wear medic alert bracelet  Avoid stimulants (caffeine) : may cause breakthrough seizures  Avoid alcohol: can cause overdose of medication

4  High fiber diet/high fluid diet to prevent constipation  Adequate rest, stress reduction  Maintain good dental care r/t side effects of medications  Provide name of local Epilepsy Foundation  Assist in dealing with feelings

5  Refer limited income patients to social service  All states prohibit discrimination against people who have epilepsy  Alternative employment may be needed.  Vocational rehabilitation may be subsidized.

6  Teach family/patient triggers to seizures: -hypoglycemia - fatigue & exhaustion - hormonal changes - illness - stress - alcohol, caffeine -constipation - hyperventilation -excessive activity

7  No driving motor vehicles  No operating heavy machinery  No working in potentially dangerous situations  No swimming, no water sports  Possibly no tub bathing  LENGTH OF RESTRICTION DEPENDS UPON STATE REGULATIONS

8  Risk for Injury r/t seizure activity  Anxiety r/t unpredictable nature of seizure disorder  Ineffective Therapeutic Regime Management r/t poor adherence to medications
