Antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) may not be stopped, even if seizures stop Wear medic alert bracelet Avoid stimulants (caffeine) : may cause breakthrough seizures Avoid alcohol: can cause overdose of medication

High fiber diet/high fluid diet to prevent constipation Adequate rest, stress reduction Maintain good dental care r/t side effects of medications Provide name of local Epilepsy Foundation Assist in dealing with feelings

Refer limited income patients to social service All states prohibit discrimination against people who have epilepsy Alternative employment may be needed. Vocational rehabilitation may be subsidized.

Teach family/patient triggers to seizures: -hypoglycemia - fatigue & exhaustion - hormonal changes - illness - stress - alcohol, caffeine -constipation - hyperventilation -excessive activity

No driving motor vehicles No operating heavy machinery No working in potentially dangerous situations No swimming, no water sports Possibly no tub bathing LENGTH OF RESTRICTION DEPENDS UPON STATE REGULATIONS
