What is harassment? The University’s Code of Practice defines harassment as: Unwanted and unwarranted conduct which has the purpose or effect of: –violating another person’s dignity –creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment for another person

Such behaviour might include Sexual advances Verbal or physical threats Insulting or abusive behaviour/comments Patronising or embarrassing behaviour/comments Humiliating and/or persistent criticism Offensive behaviour including gossip or jokes Isolation from normal work or study place, conversations or social events Publishing, circulating or displaying offensive materials Bullying Can be repeated occurrences, or a one-off incident

Any excuses? NO The motive or intention isn’t the main factor in deciding if behaviour constitutes harassment Being under the influence of alcohol or otherwise intoxicated will not be admitted as an excuse for harassment, and may be regarded as an aggravating feature.
