7 VARIATIONS Current service in production since 2005 Music-focused but can handle any audio Mainly supports JSOM audio and score reserves Includes sophisticated analysis and annotation tools Client installed in STCs, can be downloaded from IUWare Online Another option: browser-based player Access to nearly 30,000 recordings and hundreds of scores requires IU netID login and is limited to: those on STC computers in the music library students enrolled in a class using Variations (i.e., reserves list exists) content linked in IUCAT

8 IU LIBRARIES VIDEO STREAMING SERVICE Service offered by Media & Reserve Services Instructors can request films or videos for instructional use Also used by Moving Image Archive & IUScholarworks Class given single password for access Also requires CAS authentication for restricted content

9 AVALON MEDIA SYSTEM Multi-institutional collaboration; open source At IU, will replace Video Streaming Service and parts of Variations – handles audio and video Supports embedding, access control, batch ingest, LMS integration, mobile devices Currently in pilot. Projects have included: WWII Propaganda Films Area Studies workshop proceedings videos Archives Online: Senate hearings MUS Z315 Course Reserves (10 feature films) Media segments for IU Press Ethnomusicology Multimedia book IJCCR, AAAMC, remote researcher access, othersIJCCR
