3 Hyperbole  HYPERBOLE Example :The woman said that she’ll live for ever. Exaggerating to show how strong the feeling or effects are.

4 Alliteration  ALLITERATTION Example: crispy cookies crunch. A repeating first consonant sound like a nursery rhyme.

5 Metaphor  METAPHOR Example: She is skinnier than a twig. Two things that are compared without using like or as.

6 Personification  PERSONIFICATION Example: The moonlight danced on the water like an Indian dances his rain danced. Giving human traits to objects or ideas.

7 Onomatopoeia  ONOMATOPOEIA Example: The owl hooted “hoo hoo” to the other owls. A sound word.

8 Idioms  IDIOMS Example: Lilly jumped the gun this morning. Expressions that don’t mean what they say.

9 Understatement  UNDERSTATEMENT Example: This wont take long. Expression with less strength than expected.
