Algebra 2 Ch.7 Notes Page 50 P 50 7-5 Solving Square Roots and Other Radical Equations (Part 1)
2
Radical Equations An Equation that has a variable in a radicand or a variable with a fractional exponent. If the Index Number is 2, the equation is a square root equation. 3 + √x = 10 (Square Root Equation) √3 + x = 10 (Not a Square Root Equation)
3
Isolate the radical on one side of the equation and then raise both sides of the equation to the same power. Solving Square Root Equations 2 + √(3x - 2) = 6
4
Solving Radical Equations with Rational Exponents 2(x + 3) 3/2 = 54 √(3x - 3) - 6 = 0
5
2(x - 2) 2/3 = 50 (x m/n ) n/m = | x | Solving Radical Equations with Rational Exponents +/- Due to Absolute Value
