Table 1 SiteRating Remarks (Give reasons for the rating) A - Top floor of Multistorey Carpark 4 Warm but windy, at a higher level thus windy B – Garden outside printing centre 5 Shady and cooling, presence of buildings, vegetations C – The Globe at the Clock Tower 7 Strong wing, sheltered area, very cooling D – Terraces 6 Unsheltered, strong wind, quite cooling E – Field 2 Small breeze, unsheltered, quite hot, presence of grass F – Running Track 1 Hot, track reflected heat, unsheltered G – Fountain area outside General Office 3 Very humid, no wind, presence of buildings

Possible Reasons to explain the differences in temperature  Altitude  The amount of clouds  Surface of flooring  Presence of vegetation  Presence of buildings

Class and Group Hypothesis Class Hypothesis Group Hypothesis Shady areas are cooler. Area with concrete surfaces are hotter than non – concrete areas. Windy areas are cooler. Areas with higher humidity are warmer Areas with a greater wind speed have relatively low temperatures Temperature recorded closer to the ground was higher

Explanations for hypothesis  Higher humidity reduces the rate of evaporation.  Less moisture from skin is evaporated, giving the skin a sticky and wet feeling.  Therefore we will feel warmer.

Explanations for hypothesis 3/15/2016 Wind speed up evaporation. Evaporation carries the heat away so we should feel relatively cooler than places with lower wind speed.

Explanations for hypothesis 3/15/2016 Temperature taken near ground so reading was higher as the ground radiates heat. Being so close to the ground, the thermometer actually sensed the radiated heat besides the surrounding temperature.

Errors? 3/15/2016 Reading taken at different times and the surrounding wind speed and humidity were also a bit different. Human activity was also present at some places while there were trees or buildings blocking some sun.

Solutions 3/15/2016 Take readings two times every day and do this for five consecutive days. Find the average temperature Conduct the field trip a few times to confirm and check the accuracy of the results.
