2. Не was born in 1859 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Arthur's father was a civil servant most of his life. Arthur's mother ran a boarding house.

3. Arthur used to read a lot as a child. He studied at school and at the Medical Faculty of the University of Edinburgh. Arthur worked as a doctor on the ship. He wrote adventure stories to earn extra money.

4. In 1885 Arthur Doyle married. In 1907 he married a second time. In the foto he with Lady Conan Doyle in New York and three children: Denis, Adrian and Lena Jean.

5. Doyle published his first Holmes tale in 1887. Over the following 40 years he published 56 short stories and four novels featuring Holmes fnd his sidekick, Dr. Watson. He wrote plays, memoirs, short stories, historical novels. Late in life Doyle became closely interested in mysticism.
