Water Pollution How to prevent water Pollution: Conserve water Use environmentally household products Take great care not to overuse pesticides and fertilisers Don’t throw litter into rivers, lakes or oceans. Help clean up any litter you see on beaches or in rivers and lakes, make sure it is safe to collect the litter and put it in a nearby dustbin. Treating Water Pollution The conversion of these nitrates into gas is called denitrification. This prevents nitrates from leaching into the soil and contaminating groundwater.

Treating Water Pollution Using ozone to treat wastewater has many benefits : Kills bacteria effectively Oxidises substances (iron and sulphur) so that they can be filtered out of the solution There are no nasty odours or residues produced from the treatment Ozone converts back into oxygen quickly The disadvantages of using ozone as a treatment for wastewater are: The treatment requires energy in the form of electricity; this can cost money, wont work when power's out Treatment cannot remove dissolved minerals and salts Ozone treatment can sometimes produce by-products such as bromate that harms human health if they are not controlled

Trash Pollution There are so many things that are thrown away that could be recycled, about 1/4-2/4 of the trash at the landfill can be recycled. When garbage decomposes it creates a gas that contains methane, a reliable and renewable source of energy, if turn it into energy it will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions

Air Pollution Definition- The occurrence of pollutants, such as gas ad smoke, being trapped in the air, harming the Earth and it’s atmosphere. Even humans. The most common types of air pollution are smog along with acid rain and particulates. A question you might have though, is, what causes these things to happen? It’s really simple actually. Smog, for example, is a basic combination of smoke and fog. The fog, we can’t help that, but we have the big blame for the smoke. Cigarettes, chimneys, cooking on stove’s, burning down forests, and wild fires all contribute to this. The biggest one of all though is from our vehicles. The gas flows out of the gas pipe while you drive and travels into the air. Eventually it gets so heavy it just kind of sits there. Acid rain, on the other hand, is similar, but different in many ways. Yes, smoke has an effect on it, but so do many other hazardous chemicals. Sulfur dioxide, and nitrous oxide all play a huge roll. Air pollution deeply affects the health of us human beings. Especially people with asthma or lung disease, etc. Normal people though, without these, mainly suffer eye irritation, or throat dryness as well. In a way it’s kind of like smoking, just not as harmful and has different effects on you, plus it’s not a drug.

Climate Change Climate Change is also commonly known as global warming. Global Warming occurs in a variety of ways. Air pollution, greenhouse gases ( or GHG’s,) and the burning of fossil fuels. When fossil fuels are burned during air pollution, they increase the quantity of CO2 in the air, which is bad for our lungs. GHG’s are like a giant wool blanket. They cover the earth, trapping the heat inside. These rising temperatures lead to melting polar ice caps, glaciers, which means no animal habitats. And, no fresh water. You should be able to see the great concern now.

Green Living Tips! Green Living Tips!!!! 1.Use less water, or better, less hot water, when bathing, brushing your teeth, etc. 2.Carpool with a friend to use less gas. 3.Purchase an electric vehicle so you burn even less fossil fuels. 4.Instead of throwing out food scraps, make a compost for your garden. 5.Plant more trees to make up for the extra Carbon Dioxide in the air. 6.Ride your bike or walk to school! 7.Turn off lights when they’re not being used! 8.Unplug electric items- coffee makers, radios, ipods, etc. 9.Turn your thermostat up/ down a little more depending on the weather. 10. REDUCE! REUSE! RECYCLE!
