Encounter rejects previous identification with White culture, seeks identification with Black culture. Commitment internalizes Black culture, transcends racism, fights general cultural oppression. Immersion completely identifies with Black culture and denigrates White culture.

4. Majority Identity Development Reintegration Helms (1997) Pseudo-Independence Autonomy Contact Disintegration Contact is oblivious to their own racial identity. Disintegration is aware of the social implications of race on a personal level. Pseudo- Independence recognizes White privilege, but tries to fix Blacks Reintegration idealizes White culture and denigrates Black culture. Autonomy seeks to root out and abolish racial oppression
