S.E. Hinton Born in the 1950s in Tulsa, Oklahoma Wrote her 1 st book in high school at the age of 16 years old- Outsiders (1967) Became famous with the book Writer’s block for 3yrs. Wrote 2 pages a day 1971 published That Was Then This is Now Other literary works: Rumble Fish, Tex, Taming the Star Runner, Big David Little David & Puppy Fish Books that made major motion pictures: Outsiders, That Was Then This is Now & Rumble Fish (Susan Eloise Hinton)

GREASERS & SOCIALS IN THE BOOK THERE ARE TWO GROUPS: GREASERS AND SOCIALS THE GREASERS ARE LIVING IN POVERTY AND ARE MORE EMOTIONAL THAN THE SOCIALS. THE SOC’S ARE RICH AND TOO COOL TO FEEL ANYTHING.

The Greasers The Greasers come from lower class families. Many of them eventually drop out of high school. Nobody trusts them and they are always looked down upon by adults.

The Socials The socials come from wealthy families. They are trusted by everyone but the greasers. They pick many fights with greasers and are frequently intoxicated.

Outsiders They walked out slowly, silently, smiling. "Need a haircut, greaser?" The medium-sized blond pulled a knife out of his back pocket and flipped the blade open. I finally thought of something to say. "No." I was backing up, away from that knife. Of course I backed right into one of them. They had me down in a second. I fought to get loose, and almost did for a second; then they tightened up on me and slugged me a couple of times. So I lay still, swearing at them between gasps. A blade was held against my throat. "How'd you like that haircut to begin just below the chin?"
