3. People all over the world use the media everyday, whether it's using a computer, watching TV, talking on the phone or listening to the radio, media is a way to communicate. How does media influence violence?

5. The increase of violence on television and music lyrics has corresponded with a great increase in aggressive thoughts and violent crimes over the past decades, especially in teens. It is believed that the cause and effect relationship exists between media violence and real life violence. The Effects of Violence in Media

6. Teens listen to an average of 40 hours of music per week. Lyrics have become increasingly explicit particularly with reference to drugs, sex, sexual violence, etc. American Statistics show (in music lyrics) that 47% of mothers with children in public schools believe that violent messages in music contribute “a great deal” to school violence. 66% of 13-17 year olds believe violence in music is partly responsible for violent crimes. 7. Children 12 years and under committed murder, robber, larceny-theft, and forcible rape that showed evidence of specific reenactments of actions in movies. Throughout the past 30 years, violence in the media has increased, and so has violence in our society among young people. Researchers followed 329 subjects over 15 years and found that those exposed to violent television shows were much more likely to later be convicted of a crime. 9. At the age children begin to play video games they have not quite developed the ability to distinguish between what is reality and what is not. This can cause young children to act upon the violence they have viewed on television, video games and such, not knowing that what they are doing is wrong or inappropriate. Video Games

10. 1999 Columbine High School shooting. Two young men who committed this crime were said to have been extreme video game fanatics. 1997 Michael Carneal from Kentucky shoots three of his classmates “Michael Carneal clipped off nine shots in a 10-second period. Eight of those shots were hits. Three were head and neck shots and were kills. That is way beyond military standard for expert marksmanship. This was a kid who had never fired a pistol in his life, but because of his obsession with computer games he had turned himself into an expert marksman.” Examples…
