3 Demographics & Economy The population of people in the Bahamas is 342,000 in 2009 The mortality rate is 23.6/1,000 births Literacy Rate is 95.6% (total), male is 94.7% and the female is 96.5% GDP of the Bahamas is 6.5 billion while Latin America is 5.26 billion (meaning that the Bahamas is doing much better than Latin America) The Prime Minister of the Bahamas is Hubert Ingraham The currency name for the Bahamas money is Bahamian dollar (BSD) and the exchange rate is the same as the United States

4 History In 1964 the Bahamians attained internal self-government. The Bahamas attained independence from the United Kingdom in 1973. The Bahamas is a very calm and relax country that it does not have any conflicts with other countries.

5 Society The official language in the Bahamas is English; but many Haitian immigrants who live there speak Creole The most popular religion is Baptist(35%),Anglican(15%),Roman Catholic(14%),Chruch of God(5%) Family sit-downs meals unusually reserved for Sundays Bahamian food is full in high cholesterol and calories Ceremonies of marriages are held in churches People getting married unusually one to three years before marrying
