5 Sit- In Movement Sit-in- a demonstration in which protesters sit down in a location and refuse to leave Became popular during the Civil Rights Movement. African American college students sat in “whites only” sections of restaurants and refused to move.

7 Effects Sit-ins became a daily occurrence in the South. 50 southern cities had sit-ins. Supporters of all races boycotted and picketed businesses. White opponents tried to end the sit-ins by dumping food on protesters and beating them.
