3 3 Parent information Session 2016 French Section Elective INTRODUCTION -Since 1998 -Homologation by French Ministry of Education -Member of the AEFE network -293 students from PREP/GSM to Y6/6 e -14 classes, 7 french teachers, 7 australian teachers, 1 Prep assistant, 1 support teacher -Bi-National education BILINGUAL PROGRAM OF FSE -2 languages -2 teachers -1 harmonized program (Adresses both French and Australian curriculum) -Whole school approach for the best practises

AEFE Network Be a part of AEFE Network, what does that mean ? - Every student of the zone is following the program as if he was in France, with consistency and with the same requirements. -Teachers with a French teaching Diploma -Professionnal learning in French abroad or on site -French educational representatives : inspector, pedagogical Counselor -Scolarship for families

8 French Section Elective II. AAFEBS L’AAFEBS regroupe les écoles bilingues français-anglais du primaire et du secondaire en Australie. La majorité des écoles sont conventionnées ou homologuées par la France ou bien labellisées par le Label FrancEducation de l’AEFE. L’AAFEBS vise notamment à promouvoir et à soutenir l’éducation bilingue en français-anglais en Australie, ainsi qu’à favoriser le partage d’expérience et d’expertise sur l’éducation bilingue dans le contexte australien.

13 French Section Elective IV. Binome work How the binomes work ? Whole school approach to a multicultural learning (citizens of the world) Swap classes at 3.15PM every Tuesdays New week starts on Wednesday at 9AM Improve bilingual display and explicit pedagogy Australian and French counterparts meet once a week in order to: - align both curriculums - discuss strengths and concerns about students - implement tools and prepare bilingual sessions Meetings with parents are always with both teachers

17 French Section Elective IV. Binome work How to help your child in the binome work ? Speak in French with him/her and expect replies in French Discuss what has been done in class through the class books Practice French during the English week and vice-versa Speaking French needs to make sense for your child Assist him/her to do the homework which includes reading, learning lessons, poetry, projects (show and tell, displays). 20 minutes every day If no one speaks French at home: try to find a native speaker (au pair, student, nanny) to help for the homework and improve oral skills

18 French Section Elective IV. Binome work Particularities Writing Australian class: script (start cursive in grade 3) French class: cursive Lines are smaller New arrival students Buddy program Speak in the language they are more comfortable with EAL program

19 French Section Elective V. New arrival program -Intensive english up to 9 hours for eligible children -Eligibility criteria : children who have arrived within the past year EAL Teacher Withdrawn from Assistance the classroomwithin the classroom In a small grouponly in the english class

21 21 Back to school info 2015 French Section Elective -Child’s learning builds over time, cannot compare with monolingual class progress - Understand that a bilingual child’s language development is slower than the one of a monolingual child in the earlier years Don’t forget !!!
