Jacques Cartier 1491-1557 Died September 1 st By Julia Maier

France Jacques was a French explorer of Breton. He traveled the St. Lawrence River and clamed it for France. He voyaged thru North America in the years 1534-1535.

What was found Jacques found Canada and claimed it for France. He named Canada “Kanata” meaning village or settlement in the Huron- Iroquois language. He found the region called Honguedo and took the natives.

What they took back The natives from Honguedo, that Jacques and his crew stayed with. Agreed to going with them to Europe, as long as they had good European goods to trade.
