End of Topic 8 Quiz Question 1 Which best describes tidal volume (breathing depth)? a)The number of breaths you make in 1 minute b)The number of breaths you make in 1 breath c)The amount of air breathed in / out in 1 breath d)The volume of air in the body

End of Topic 8 Quiz Question 2 Which best describes breathing rate? a)The number of breaths you make in 1 minute b)The number of breaths you make in 1 breath c)The amount of air breathed in / out in 1 breath d)The volume of air in the body

End of Topic 8 Quiz Question 3 Classify the following effects on the respiratory system as either short or long term a)Increased breathing rate _______________ b)Increased tidal volume _________________ c)Increased Lung capacity_________________ d)Increased number of alveoli ______________

End of Topic 8 Quiz Question 4 What is the correct term for ‘the amount of air breathed in and out on 1 breath? a)Stroke volume b)Tidal volume c)Alveoli d)Breathing rate

End of Topic 8 Quiz Question 5 What is Oxygen debt? a)The extra oxygen paid back at the end of exercise b)The extra oxygen paid back at the start of exercise c)The total amount of oxygen you owe during exercise d)It just means oxygen

End of Topic 8 Quiz Question 6 In what 2 ways does the respiratory system respond at the end of exercise to make sure you repay the oxygen debt? a)Breathing rate and depth return to normal immediately b)Breathing rate stays higher (elevated) but breathing depth goes down c)Breathing rate and depth (tidal volume) stay higher for several minutes at the end of exercise

End of Topic 8 Quiz Question 7 At the end of exercise, breathing rate and tidal volume remain higher for a few minutes to pay back the oxygen debt, but what other important function is this also carrying out? a)Carbon Dioxide is breathed in b)Waste products like carbon dioxide are removed from the body c)Lactic acid is stored in the legs

End of Topic 8 Quiz Question 8 State 2 long term effects of exercise on the respiratory system 1)______________________ 2)______________________

End of Topic 8 Quiz Question 9 At what point in a boxing match would oxygen debt be paid back? a)At the end of the fight b)At the end of each round c)During the fight d)Boxers don’t get Oxygen debt because boxing is anaerobic

End of Topic 8 Quiz Question 10 Smoking is bad for the respiratory system. Which is the correct effect of smoking on the respiratory system a)Smoking damages the alveoli b)Smoking increases tidal volume c)Smoking will only have a negative effect in long distance activities

End of Topic 8 Quiz Question 11 The key words associated with this topic are on the next slide. Recap what each one means by making a list and either writing or saying what they mean

Topic 7 Key Words

Topic 8 Key Words Alveoli – Tiny air sacs in the lungs that allow gas exchange Resiratory system– The lungs Breathing rate– The number of breaths in 1 minute Breathing depth– Also called tidal volume. It is the amount of air you breath in and out in 1 breath. Basically it is how deeply you breath Tidal Volume– Is how deeply you breath. Defined as the amount of air breathed in and out in 1 breath Vital capacity– The maximum amount of air you can inhale or exhale in the most forceful breath possible Aerobic exercise– Steady exercise. This type of exercise uses oxygen and no oxygen debt is created Anaerobic exercise– Fast intense exercise. This type of exercise does not use oxygen and therefore builds up an oxygen debt Oxygen debt – The extra oxygen needed to be repaid at the end of exercise

Topic 8 Quiz Answers 1.(c) The amount of air breathed in and out in 1 breath 2.(a) The number of breaths you make in 1 minute 3. Increased breathing rate = Short term Increased tidal volume = short term Increased lung capacity = long term Increased number of alveoli = long term 4. (b) Tidal Volume 5.(a) The extra oxygen rapid to the body at the end of exercise. 6.(c)Breathing rate and depth (tidal volume) stay higher for several minutes at the end of exercise 7.(b) Waste products such as carbon dioxide are removed from the body

Topic 8 Quiz Answers 8.Increased numbers of alveoli / increased lung capacity / increased vital capacity 9.(b) At the end of each round 10. Smoking damaged the alveoli
