Objective: To understand how to multiply mixed numbers.
12
Multiply Mixed Numbers
13
To multiply a mixed number, convert the mixed number to an improper fraction then multiply as fractions, then simplify if needed.
14
Multiply Mixed Numbers To convert a mixed number to an improper fraction, multiply the denominator by the whole number, add the numerator and place over the denominator
15
Multiply Mixed Numbers Multiply the denominator by the whole number. 3 15 3 5 = x
16
Multiply Mixed Numbers Add the numerator. + 3 15+3 3 5 =
17
Multiply Mixed Numbers Place over the denominator. 3 15+3 3 5 = 5 =
18
Multiply Mixed Numbers 3 15+3 18 3 5 = 5 = 5
19
Multiply Mixed Numbers Convert to an improper fraction. 2 7 7 =
20
Multiply Mixed Numbers Convert to an improper fraction. 2 49+2 51 7 7 = 7 = 7
21
Multiply Mixed Numbers Convert to an improper fraction. 3 12 5 =

Why is the first product less than ¾?
42
Multiply Mixed Numbers Why is the first product less than ¾? Because ½ x ¾ is the same as ½ of ¾ and ½ of some number will always be less than that some number.
43
Multiply Mixed Numbers Why is the second product equal to ¾?
44
Multiply Mixed Numbers Why is the second product equal to ¾? Because 1 x some number will always equal that some number. This is the Identity Property.
45
Multiply Mixed Numbers Why is the third product greater than ¾?
46
Multiply Mixed Numbers Why is the third product greater than ¾? Because 3/2 is greater than 1 and a number greater than 1 times some number will always be greater than that some number.
