2  A common use of computers in retail is the point-of-sale (POS) system.  Managing the relationships the company has with its customers is at the core of a business strategy called customer relationship management (CRM).  Enterprise resource planning (ERP) – software used to integrate all parts of a company’s business management, including planning, manufacturing, sales, marketing, invoicing, payroll, inventory control, order tracking, customer service, finance, and human resources.

3  A touch screen is a display screen that responds to human touch. Allows a person to interact with the computer.  Interactive TV use satellite technology and computer hardware and software to make the TV function like a computer.

4  Interactive TV also benefits marketers because of the click stream, every click of the remote goes into a database for later analysis.  The World Wide Web and the internet are two different things.  The web is a part of the internet and is a collection of interlinked electronic documents.

5  Hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) – links documents together  Uniform resource locator (URL) – used to identify and locate Web pages on the internet  Hundreds of thousands of new Web pages are added every week.

6  Two of the most popular search engines are Google and Yahoo.  Google is by far the largest with a database of more than a trillion URLs.  Search engines make money by putting paid advertisers near or high up in the search results listings.

7  Email is popular because it is delivered immediately and the sender and receiver don’t have to be available at the same time.  An intranet is a private, secure network usually within a company or organization.  Firewall – protects the security of sensitive information

8  Firewall is a software and hardware checkpoint for all requests for inputs of data, incoming and outgoing.  E-commerce is the process of conducting business transactions on the internet.  Digital data is not always safe. All computer files are subject to viruses, worms, spyware, and malware.  It is important to always backup your files.
