Rules for Graphing 1.The manipulated variable is on the x-axis with the numbers increasing from left to right. 2.The responding variable is on the y-axis with the numbers increasing from bottom to top. 3. The graph is labeled with a descriptive name that indicates the relationship of the variables. 4. Each axis is labeled with a descriptive name that indicates the relationship of the variables.

5. Units of measure are labeled on the axis and the intervals along each axis should be evenly spaced. 6. The scales for the two axes do not have to be the same –and the scale should be selected for clarity. 7. Numbers on the axis are positioned on the grid line.

Slope 1.What is a slope ? P15 2. How is slope calculated? 3. Calculate the slope of the following : Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 4. Write the equation of each slope

Experiment #1 Inclined to Roll (100pts) I.Problem : How does the steepness of the ramp affect how fast an object moves from start to finish ? 10 pts II.Materials : 10 pts III.Procedures : 10 pts IV.Data Table : 20 pts V.Graph : 20 pts VI.Analysis and Conclusion – 20 pts

Experiment #1 Inclined to Roll (100pts) I.Problem : How does the steepness of the ramp affect how fast an object moves from start to finish ? 10 pts II.Materials : 10 pts a. Marble d. meter stick b. Wooden board e. stopwatch c. 4 books

III. Procedures: 1.Lay the board on 1 book. 2.Measure the height of the 1 st ramp. 3.Measure the distance from start to finish. 4.Measure the time as the object rolls down the ramp Calculate the speed. 5.Repeat 1-5 using additional books to change the slope of the ramp.

Analysis and Conclusion 1.What is the purpose of this experiment? 2.What is the manipulated (independent) variable? 3.What is the responding (dependent) variable? 4.What happens to the speed of the marble when the height of the ramp is increased? 5.What happens to the acceleration of the marble when the height of the ramp is increased?
