Our school is a Band 1 school, the only EMI girls’ school in Tuen Mun.

The courses greatly benefit our school’s EMI learning and teaching. They have enhanced our EMI teachers’ pedagogy, focusing on both the contents and the language objectives. A very important message – All teachers are language teachers.

Our school has gained great confidence in EMI pedagogy. We have gained official recognition from the EDB on the EMI implementation of our school.

Teachers’ worry: - Is there any contradiction between traditional grammar and functional grammar? - The answer is “No”

What is functional grammar? -Functional grammar links grammar to context. -It is relevant to both oral and written modes.

- Functional Grammar focuses on how people use appropriate language for different purposes and how texts vary to achieve these purposes.

- It is useful for teachers because it describes how and why language features differ across different genres.

- It provides a framework which shows how appropriate choices can be made to produce successful texts.
