7 Name of Museum Each stone block that was used in the Great Pyramids at Giza weighed an average of two and a half tons! The Great Pyramids at Giza are three huge pyramids that are made of more than two million stone blocks and used to be 481 feet tall, but they are now 450 feet tall. The Great Pyramids were built for kings from about 2600-2500 B.C.at Giza on the west bank of the Nile River. The peasants were the ones who built the Great Pyramids for King Khufu, King Khafre, and King Menkaure. The Great Pyramids at Giza show that Ancient Egypt was an important civilization because they used technology to build the pyramids. Introduction Back to Room 1

8 Name of Museum Three examples of technology show that the Great Pyramids show that Ancient Egypt was an important civilization. One way the Great Pyramids show that Ancient Egypt was an important civilization was the technology Egyptians used in cutting in cutting stone. Egyptians used copper chisels, copper saws, and other tools made from copper or dolerite to cut stone. Another way technology shows that Great Pyramids show that Ancient Egypt was an important civilization was in the technology of the tools Egyptians used. The tools that the Egyptians used were mallets, wedges, hammers, plumb lines, and dolerite balls. The third way technology shows that the Great Pyramids show that Ancient Egypt was an important civilization was in the technology Egyptians used to transport stone blocks. The Egyptians used boats to get the stone blocks across the Nile, Egyptians also built long ramps and dragged stones up the ramps using sledges under the stone blocks and wooden planks under the sledges to lessen friction. In conclusion, the Great Pyramids do show that Ancient Egypt was an important civilization because of the technology it took to build the pyramids. Body Paragraph Back to Room 2
