2.  The game is played with 2 teams. Each team consists of 5 players on the court at a time.  The object of the game is to outscore your opponent by shooting the ball into your basket and preventing them from putting the ball into theirs.

3. The ball can be advanced up the floor with the hands only, either by dribbling or passing to teammates. The ball can be advanced up the floor with the hands only, either by dribbling or passing to teammates.

4. o The game is played on a rectangular floor called the court, and there is a hoop at each end. o The court is divided into two main sections by the mid-court line. o On a competition level, a team is made up of 5 players playing on the court and 5 players sitting on the bench that can be used for substitution during the whole period of the game.

5.  Teams are assigned a basket at which to shoot for the first half, and they switch ends at half-time.  Each player is assigned a position when playing.  This position is usually determined by the height of the player.  The ball is moved down the court toward the basket by passing or dribbling.

6. o Points are scored any time the ball goes through the basket. o 3 points are granted if the shot is taken beyond the 3- points line, and 2 points are awarded for a basket made from anywhere else on the court. o A free throw is worth 1 point.

7.  Basketball fouls are penalties assessed(charged) by the referees for rough play to keep a player from gaining an advantage over another player.  A player who is fouled is awarded the ball out of bounds unless the foul occurred during the act of shooting, in which case the player who is fouled is awarded 2 free throws.

8. Each player is allowed 5 fouls before they are removed from the game.
