2 nd Half of 11.1 Basic Geometric Shapes By: Nicole Garcia & Denise Padilla
2
Basic Geometric Shapes A parallelogram is a quadrilateral with both pairs of opposite sides parallel. Opposite sides are equal in length, and opposite angles have equal measures. L M P O LMPOandLPMO LM =PO and LP = MO L=OandP=M
3
Basic Geometric Figures A rectangle is a parallelogram with four right angles. R S T U R =T =U =S =90
4
Basic Geometric Figures A square is a rectangle with four sides equal in length. D E F G DE = EG = FG = DF
5
Basic Geometric Figures A circle is a closed plane figure made up of points that are all the same distance from a fixed point called the center. O Circle with center O
6
Basic Geometric Figures A diameter is a line segment that passes through the center of a circle and has both endpoints on the circle. O A B Diameter AB
7
Basic Geometric Figures A radius is a line segment with one endpoint on the circle and the other at the center. O B Radius OB

Example In DEF, D = 45 and E = 65 Find the measure of F 45 65 The sum of the measures of the angles is 180 so we write the following D + E + F = 180 45 + 65 + F = 180 110 + F = 180 - 110 + F = 180 – 110 F = 70 110 D E F
