Formulas of Geometric Shapes ZACHARY SWANGER MATHEMATICS GRADES 5-8
3
Main Menu Circle Rectangle Triangle After you have read about all of the shapes, click on “quiz” to take the quiz. Cylinder Square Cube Right Triangle Click on a shape or the words for more info about that shape Sphere Take the quiz here
4
The Circle The circle is unique because it has zero sides The area formula for a circle is A = (3.14)r^2 The circumference for a circle is C = 2(3.14)r r = radius
5
The Triangle The triangle has three sides The area of a triangle is A = (1/2)b x h The perimeter for a triangle is P = s + s + s b = base h = height s = side
6
The Right Triangle Like the triangle, the right triangle has three sides Skills that are used a lot having to deal with right triangles are sine, cosine, and tangent The Pythagorean theorem is A^2 + B^2 = C^2 a = side b = side c = hypotenuse
7
The Rectangle The rectangle has four sides The area of a rectangle is A = l x w The perimeter of a rectangle is P = 2(l x w) l = length w = width
8
The Square Like the rectangle, the square also has four sides The area of a square is A = s^2 The perimeter formula for a square is P = s x 4 s = side
9
The Cube The cube has many sides; 6 to be exact! The surface area of a cub is SA = 6s^2 The volume of a cube is V = s^3 s = side
10
The Cylinder The cylinder may loo like it has sides, but it actually falls in line with the circle and sphere The volume of a cylinder is V = (3.14)r^2h The area of a cylinder is A = 2(3.14)r^2 + h(6.28r) r = radius h = height
11
The Sphere The sphere is unique like the circle as in it has no sides, but it also a three dimensional object The Surface Area of a Sphere is SA= 4(3.14)r^2 The volume of a sphere is V = 4/3(3.14)r^3 r = radius
12
What shape does this formula apply to: Area = (1/2)base x height A. Rectangle A. Rectangle B. Triangle B. Triangle C. Square C. Square
13
Sorry, your answer is incorrect. The answer to the question is not a rectangle. The area for a rectangle is: Area = Length x Width
14
Correct! Good job! Your answer is correct! The area formula for a triangle is: Area = (1/2) base x height
15
Sorry, your answer is incorrect. The answer to the question is not a square. The area for a square is: Area = (side)^2
16
