3 Social Media Policy – Let’s feel safe! PURPOSE: The purpose of this policy is to provide UC Davis personnel with standards for participation in social media, such as online blogs, podcasts, webcasts, and social network sites. This includes health system-hosted social media and non-health system social media in which the individual’s health system affiliation is known, identified or presumed. DEFINITION: Social media--incorporates various forms of electronic communication technologies that expand online communications into an interactive dialogue among organizations, communities and individuals. Social media allows for the creation and exchange of user-generated content to be shared and discussed over the Internet and includes, but is not limited to, blogs, microblogs (like Twitter), online forums and chat rooms, other social networking sites (like Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Pinterest) and all other social media channels.
