World War I on the Front Page “You are there!”
For this project, imagine you are a newspaper reporter, going back in time to World War I For this project, you will research, gather photos and write one (1) news story about an event and/or topic on World War I We will use the computer app “Comic Life” to create our Front Pages You will work in groups, each group taking one year of the war as its time period: 1914, 1915, 1916, 1917, 1918

Sample WW1 News Story

Day 1: Step 1 Focusing on the year you have been assigned, browse the different timelines and research sources included in this Power Point to familiarize yourself with the period of time and topics Choose at least three (3) events and/or topics of interest to you. Share these choices with your group, and then decide as a group who will do which story (no duplications).
22
Day 2: Step 2 Research your event or topic and take notes on information to use in your story. --NOTE: You MUST use at least three (3) sources—only one (1) of which may be Wikipedia—and take notes from each. Include the sources, in MLA format, with your notes. Find a photograph or graphic to go with your story. Write a caption of at least 50 words for it. --NOTE: Include the source of the photo in MLA format in your notes.
23
Day 3: Step 3 Write your story, using your sources for facts and quotes. Imagine that you are writing this at the time, to get a reaction from your readers: surprise, anger, sadness, etc. Make it dramatic and informative. 300 word minimum Have your story proofread by a member of your team. Write a headline that will attract and engage the readers’ attention. Keep a List of Sources in MLA format for your story
24
Day 4: Step 4 Together with your group, arrange your stories and photos in a newspaper format using Comic Life. Print out your group’s Front Page (and any additional pages) for Stephanie . Turn in a copy of your story, your research notes, and MLA formatted sources to Stephanie.
