5 Apartheid South Africa’s infamous system of enforced racial segregation Effects of this:  High crime rate  Traditional tribal cultures gave way to the lure of cities  South Africans left with no moral or social organization  Whites did nothing to alleviate poverty  Blacks worked in gold mines but weren’t paid enough to survive

6 Displacement of Tribes  The Dutch arrive!  Afrikaans  Known as Boers
