2. STUDENTS CREATE A DEFINITION FOR FINANCIAL AID. STUDENTS IDENTIFY THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF EACH TYPE OF FINANCIAL AID (SCHOLARSHIPS, GRANTS, WORK STUDY, AND LOANS). STUDENTS CATEGORIZE AND PRIORITIZE SPECIFIC FINANCIAL AID PROGRAMS. Lesson Objectives 2

3. Breakout 1: Comparing Financial Aid (15 minutes) 3 Directions: There are several types of financial aid categories; you may already be familiar with some of them. This comparison activity will define the four main types of financial aid (scholarships, grants, work study, and loans) and allow students to compare and contrast them. Students have 12 minutes to complete and discuss the “Comparing Financial Aid” handout in their small groups.

4. Breakout 2: Prioritizing Financial Aid (10 minutes) 4 Directions: Now that you have a basic understanding of the various types of financial aid, you will sort and categorize specific financial aid programs. Students have 8 minutes to complete the “Prioritizing Financial Aid” handout in their same groups. The goal is to categorize the aid listed as free, earned, or borrowed money and discuss which aid is most and least preferable.

5. Reflect and Review (2 minutes) 5 Let’s take 1-2 minutes to debrief around what you learned today and how to you apply some of this information to you life. What information resonated with you about today’s workshop? What information was new to you? What information was most helpful to learn about? Why? What knowledge can you pass on or share with family members?

6. Middle School Exit Survey (15 minutes) 6 Trainers will pass out the “Middle School Exit Survey” to students at the conclusion of the last GLOW workshop. Students have 15 minutes to complete and turn in the assessment. Provide a time check when 5 minutes remain. Students are welcome to leave after submitting their post-assessment.
